Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Exeter
I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Tropical Palaeoecology at the University of Exeter. My research involves using palaeoecological techniques (palynology, charcoal analysis, XRF) and agent-based modelling to explore the long-term environmental impacts of past human activity, with a primary focus on Mesoamerica and Amazonia. Rather than simply being passive observers, humans represent active components of the landscapes they inhabit, and I am especially interested in how their repeated actions can lead to the long-term transformation of their surroundings. My PhD from the School of Archaeology, Geography, and Environmental Science at the University of Reading applied these same techniques to assess the environmental impacts of pre-Columbian earthmoving cultures of northern Bolivia. I also hold an MSc in Quaternary Science from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a BSc in Geography from King’s College London.
